How to Combine Cookbooks

Merging cookbooks is accomplished with NYC’s recipe import/export routines.  Let’s assume you want to combine (merge) two cookbooks, named “CB1” and “CB2”.  Here are the 3 ways to merge two cookbooks:

Method 1 – Import from CB2 into CB1

Note:  This method enlarges CB1 with all recipes from CB2, leaving CB2 unchanged.

1.      Use File… Open Cookbook… dbl-click CB1… to open CB1.  Confirm CB1 is open (name shows at bottom of NYC window).

2.      Use File… Import Recipes… and dbl-click the CB2 filename (“cb2.gcf”) in the file dialog.

3.      In the Import window, click the ‘<<<’ button to queue all recipes in CB2 for import into CB1.

4.      In the Import window, press the Import button to import queued recipes into CB1.

Method 2 – Export from CB1 into CB2

Note:  This method enlarges CB2 with all recipes from CB1, leaving CB1 unchanged.

1.      Use File… Open Cookbook… dbl-click CB1… to open CB1.  Confirm CB1 is open (name shows at bottom of NYC window).

2.      Use File… Export Recipes…, select ‘NYC cookbook’ in the Export to: frame, press Export… button, and dbl-click the CB2 filename (“cb2.gcf”).

3.      In the Export window, click the ‘<<<’ button to queue all recipes in CB1 for export.

5.      Press the Export button on the import window to export queued recipes into CB2.

Method 3 – Create new cookbook CB3, and import from CB1 and CB2 into CB3

Note:  This method leaves CB1 and CB2 unchanged.

1.      Use File… New Cookbook…, type the cookbook name “CB3”, and press OK in the New Cookbook window to create and open CB3.

2.      Close the New Cookbook window.

3.      Use File… Import Recipes… and dbl-click CB1 in the file dialog (“cb1.gcf”).

4.      In the Import window, click the ‘<<<’ button to queue all recipes in CB1 for import into CB3.

5.      In the Import window, press the Import button to import queued recipes into CB3.

6.      Close the Import window.

7.      Use File… Import Recipes… and dbl-click CB2 in the file dialog (“cb2.gcf”)

8.      In the Import window, click the ‘<<<’ button to queue all recipes in CB2 for import into CB3.

9.      In the Import window, press the Import button to import queued recipes into CB3.
