How to Obtain Cost of a Shopping List, Meal Plan, Recipe, or Serving

NYC calculates the cost of your shopping list, which is auto-created from meal plans.  Meal plans are created from recipes.  So NYC costs out whatever recipes are in your meal plan.

To get the cost of a shopping list:

  1. Use the “List Cost” toolbar button to obtain the cost of any shopping list.

To get the cost of a meal plan:

  1. Create and save the meal plan (Menu…Plan…, then File… New Menu… to create a new meal plan). The meal plan’s shopping list is auto-created when you save the meal plan.
  2. Use the “List Cost” toolbar button to obtain the cost of the shopping list created for your meal plan.

To get the cost of a recipe:

  1. Include only that recipe in a new meal plan, and save the meal plan.  The meal plan’s shopping list is auto-created when you save the meal plan.
  2. Use the “List Cost” toolbar button to obtain the cost of the shopping list for the meal plan, which includes only the 1 recipe.

To get the cost of “N” servings of a recipe:

  1. Use the Copy button on the recipe selection toolbar to save a copy of the recipe with a new name, e.g., change “Chili” to “Chili (1 serving)”.
  2. Open the copy of the recipe in recipe edit window and resize it to “N” serving(s) (e.g., 1 serving) and save.  NOTE:  You must have “allow resized recipe to be saved” checked in Tools… Options… Editing… for the Save to work.
  3. Include only the “N”-serving(s) version of the recipe in a meal plan. The meal plan’s shopping list is created when you save the meal plan.
  4. Use the “List Cost” toolbar button to obtain the cost of the automatically created meal plan, which now includes only the “N” serving(s).
