Adding Items to the Nutrition Database

Users can add to the nutrition database.  We don’t encourage this, because most folks don’t study the existing database enough to know that their items are almost always in there already – they just are not looking in the right place.  And adding lots of user defined items can fragment the database.

If you have searched using the Edit… Find… feature with the nutrition database open, and cannot find a reasonable proxy for your item, then here is how-to add an item to the nutrition database:

Open the nutrition database using Nutrition… Database… from the main menu.

To add a new item to the nutrition database:

  1. Press the Clear button to clear the nutrition entry data.
  2. Enter the nutrition data for the item you want to add, and give it a name and serving size as needed.
  3. Press Add to add your user-defined item to the database.

To edit an existing user-defined nutrition database item:

  1. Click the user-defined item in the list.
  2. Make your edits to the data entry textboxes.
  3. Press Add, and at the prompt, choose to Replace the item with the edited item.

To create a new item starting from a main database item:

  1. Click the main database item in the list.  Change the name of the item.
  2. Press the Add button to add it as a user-defined item.
  3. Click the user-defined item in the list, and edit the nutrition data how you want it.
  4. Press Add and at the prompt, choose to Replace the item with the edited item.
